Step 1: Heavy Sanding (600 Grit)
The first step is to remove the damaged, oxidized layer of plastic. Start by taping off the paint around your headlights to protect your car.
Using 600 grit sandpaper and plenty of water (wet sanding), sand the entire surface of the lens in horizontal motions.
Your headlight will look very "milky" and opaque—don't panic! This is exactly what should happen as you strip away the old, yellowed layer.

Most modern lenses are made of Polycarbonate. While it's tough, it's also sensitive to the sun. UV Rays break down the plastic's chemical bonds through a process called Photo-oxidation. This doesn't just make them ugly; it physically degrades the surface, creating that yellow "crust" you see. Sanding it down is the only way to remove the dead plastic and reveal the clear layer underneath!

Step 2: Refining the Surface (1200 Grit)
Once the oxidation is gone, you need to smooth out the scratches left by the first step. Switch to 1200 grit sandpaper. Again, keep the surface very wet. This finer grit will begin to bring back some of the clarity, making the "fog" on the lens much finer and smoother.
Rinse the headlight thoroughly and dry it completely. It should look hazy but uniform.

Step 3: The Secret Sauce (UV Clear Coat)
Sanding makes the lens clear, but without protection, it will turn yellow again in weeks. The final step is applying a UV Clear Coat. This acts as a permanent clear coat that shields the plastic from the sun.
Apply the UV clear coat in thin, even overlapping passes. You will see the "magic" happen instantly—the haze disappears, and the lens becomes crystal clear
